Odia actor Mihir Das passes away

Veteran Odia actor Mihir Das died at a hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday, his family said. He was 63. Das was suffering from renal ailments for years, and he was admitted to the private hospital on December 9 last year and was on ventilator support. Born in Mayurbhanj district on February 11, 1959, he made his debut in the art film School Master. His first commercial movie was Mathura Bijay in 1979. The versatile actor had won the state government’s best actor award for his performance in Laxmi Pratima (1998) and Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni (2005). Das had won the best comedian award for his role in Mu Tate Love Karachi (2007). His acting in Pua Mora Bholashankara will always be remembered, his co-worker Bapu Lenka said. He was a popular anchor who hosted the reality show Ashara Aloka. The actor had also tried his luck in politics. No lockdown in Maharashtra for now; Health Department lists these conditions to impose tighter curbs

Mumbai: There will be no lockdown in Maharashtra as of now despite the surge in Omicron-driven COVID-19 cases. A day after the western state reported a daily spike of 26,538 new COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra Health Department said Thursday that the decision to impose lockdown will be taken only when the situation about the availability of medical oxygen or hospital beds deteriorates. “There is no consideration of lockdown as of now. The Maharashtra government will consider a lockdown or lockdown-like restrictions after medical oxygen demand for the state goes beyond 800 metric tonnes per day or more than 40 percent of Covid beds in hospitals are occupied,” the Health Department said. The department added that the current surge in COVID-19 cases is expected to peak in mid-February and is likely to subside by mid-March.
